Vintage Hats: Sizing and Fit Guide

When it comes to vintage hats, there's no one-size-fits-all policy. Due to their age, uniqueness and differing styles, you'll need to consider a few things to find the perfect fit.

Cap Sizes

Most of our vintage caps come with an adjustable strap on the back, which can fit most regular head sizes. However, if you are still uncertain of the sizing, feel free to get in contact with any questions regarding any particular cap.

Some of our vintage caps follow the specific cap sizing chart (eg, 6 7/8, 7, 7 1/4). This format is popular within caps and hats, as it allows you to find the exact sized cap for your head. (Please read the product description on our caps, to see if it is adjustable or a single size.)

To find your specific cap size you can use a flexible measuring tape. Take the tape and measure around your head, just above your ears and around the forehead (where the cap will sit.) Then record this measurement in inches or centimetres.

From here you can use a hat conversion chart to see which size is best for you.

Cap Style

Another factor is the style of the cap. Each cap style will fit differently on a person's head. For instance, a snapback, trucker cap and baseball cap will all fit differently.

So think about the shape of the cap and figure out which style compliments your head shape the most.

Cap Fit

When wearing a vintage cap, you want to ensure it sits comfortably on your head without pinching or leaving marks. The brim should rest about an inch above your eyebrows.

The way you wear a hat will be a direct influence on the way it fits. For instance, some people like to wear caps backwards, which creates a whole new dynamic to the fit of the cap. So keep this in consideration when purchasing.

Cap Material

Nearly all of our vintage hats are made from cotton, nylon or corduroy material. These materials don't generally affect the size too much, however, it is important to consider other materials that you may come across.

For instance, some materials, such as wool, tend to shrink over time. Whereas for materials such as leather, a tighter fit is ideal as the material will stretch to conform to your head shape over time.
